Abstract

Universities with their departments have opened official microblog accounts to "brand" themselves and help improve communication and administration. This program is to discover and compare behavior patterns for official accounts operated by information schools from the US and China in two language dependent microblog platforms: Twitter vs. Weibo. Results of statistics and network analysis show that the accounts can be clustered into five groups with each featuring distinct behavior patterns indicated by four main factors. The comparison further uncovered the common and different operation practices of Twitter and Weibo accounts, with operation styles explained and good practices discussed.
