Using Learning Analytics to Assess Student Learning in Wikis

Wiki is widely regarded as a useful tool to facilitate project-based learning activities, but its adoption is not necessarily welcomed by teachers because of the increased workload in continual student assessment. Focusing on the commenting function of Google Sites, this study aims to facilitate teachers by using Learning Analytics in assessing the facet of student learning as reflected in their comments posted on their project wikis. The goal is to develop a coding scheme that is computationally feasible in (semi-)automating a valid content analysis of the comments and practically useful in generating qualitative outputs about student performance informing continual student assessment.
