Abstract

By studying two new facilities developed under the IC/LC models in the University of Hong Kong (HKU), namely Level 3 in the Main Library and the Chi Wah Learning Commons, this research will explore the behaviours of undergraduate users in these learning spaces as well as the impact of the IC/LC models on student learning outcomes.

This study aims to collect both qualitative and quantitative data from users of the above learning facilities. A survey based on the Expectation Disconfirmation Theory is being administered to measure user expectation and satisfaction while individual and group behaviours of users at the above locations are observed before the end of the 2013/14 academic year.  Findings from the survey and observation sessions will be supplemented by in-depth interviews of individuals and groups.  It is hoped that the different sets of data can help to verify user perceptions of the two facilities and offer insight into the impact of those spaces on student learning.
